Shakespeare
Solitude
Rich. I have been
studying how I may compare
This prison, where I live, unto the world :
And for because the world is populous,
And here is not a creature but myself,
I cannot do it ; yet I’ll hammer it out.
My brain I’ll prove the female of my soul ;
My soul, the father : and these two beget
A generation of still-breeding thoughts,
And these same thoughts people this little world,
In humours like the people of this world,
For no thought is contented.
RICHARD. –
Je me suis appliqué à comparer
Avec le
monde cette prison où je vis ;
Et comme
le monde est rempli de gens
Et qu’il
n’y a d’autre créature ici que moi,
Cela m’est
impossible. Je vais pourtant travailler à cela.
Je vais
faire de mon cerveau l’époux de mon âme,
Et avec
mon âme, tous les deux vont engendrer
Une
génération de pensées fécondes,
Et
celles-ci vont peupler mon petit monde
D’humeurs
chamailleuses comme les gens,
Car aucune
pensée ne se suffit à elle-même.
Richard
